Sacred Acre Coffee Roasters

Gems has carried coffee from Sacred Acre Coffee Roasters for almost four years! Although their line up hasn't changed much since we started working with them, one thing's for sure, we admire their consistency.

Sacred Acre Coffee Roasters is an Alberta based brand that owned by Canterbury Coffee out of Richmond B.C.

In they're own words, they specialize in scarcity and rarity, which essentially means working with farmers who grow heirloom plants. The name "Sacred Acre" reflects their philosophy of cherishing the land, people, and environment.

While their coffee does tend to be roasted slightly darker than other craft roasters, they preserve a remarkable balance of complexity. Typically darker roasts often sacrifice some of the beans subtler notes, but we definitely think they've cracked a code that others haven't. Perhaps their secret is in the blends they put together, which often include combinations of origins we've yet to experience anywhere else.

For instance, they Navigator Espresso blend, has beans from Rwanda, Ethiopia, Brazil and El Salvador into it. That makes it a blend that spans three continents. The Rwandan and Ethiopian beans bring acidity and brightness with floral and citrus notes, the Brazilian beans add depth with nutty, chocolatey undertones and the El Salvadorian beans tie it together with a smooth body and subtle hints of caramel.

Although in our early days we were exclusively loyal to single origins, and would almost never touch a blend, the more we've come to know the science that goes into the right kind of blend, the more we appreciate them.

Canterbury Coffee, was founded in 1981 and is one of Canada’s largest roasteries with close to $30 million in annual revenues and over 100 employees and offices both in Richmond, BC and Edmonton, Alberta. The Sacred Acre brand, represents the pinnacle of their commitment to coffee excellence.
